Hello from the Royal Thai Embassy. We want to share an important update regarding visa-free travel to Thailand.
The Cabinet of Thailand recently decided to end the temporary 60-day visa-free entry rule. We are returning to the standard 30-day entry limit for eligible passports.
Here is what you need to know for your upcoming travel plans:
The New 30 Day Rule Travelers from visa-exempt countries will now receive a 30-day entry stamp upon arrival instead of 60 days. The government made this change to improve border security and ensure travelers have the correct visas for their stay.
When It Starts This change becomes official 15 days after it is published in the Royal Gazette. We will post the exact enforcement date on this page as soon as it is confirmed.
Current Travelers Are Safe If you are already in Thailand with a 60-day stamp, your stay is still valid. You can remain in the country until the expiration date printed in your passport.
Visa Extensions You can still visit a local Immigration Bureau office to request a 30-day extension. Please note that these extensions require a valid reason and are subject to the immigration officer’s approval.
Land Border Crossings Under the visa exemption scheme, you are only permitted to enter Thailand by land twice per calendar year.
Our Recommendation If you plan to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, we strongly suggest applying for a formal Tourist Visa before you book your flight. A standard Tourist Visa grants a 60-day stay and makes your arrival process much smoother.
You can apply online through our official portal.
Please check this page regularly for further updates. Safe travels.
